Little ACES PROCEDURE MANUAL – PROGRAM CONTENT – Little ACES – FPMS Blue Stage Program
Note: THIS IS A PARENT or CARER PARTICIPATION PROGRAM. It is next to impossible for the coach to manage every child at this stage so the parents are encouraged to do all the activities with their child. As a result, most coaches can handle between 5 – 12 players with 8 being an optimal number.
Court Layout –
The back section of the court is used to start and finish all lessons by having the children sitting down in the corner. This helps to calm the excitement.
Section 1: Movement (Locomotion) – between the baseline and the service line.
Section 2: Throw and Catch – located between the service line and the net.
Section 3: Striking – located on the other side of the net.
Semester 1: Split your program up into 3-week training blocks. Two adventures and then repeat one adventure on the third week.
Training block #1: For example, includes Rodeo and Beach Adventures and then repeat whichever one the children liked best or the one you think they need to work on the most.
Gamification principles: the players have to perform activities to “unlock” the equipment or the skills to go to the next level, for example;
1) The 1st ladder “unlocks” the movement activities (and sometimes the hats)
2) The 2nd ladder “unlocks” the balls used for the throw and catch activities
3) The 3rd ladder “unlocks” the striking equipment (racquets) for the mission activities
Repeat the process for every lesson twice. For example, your timing might include;
Start (sitting in a circle) – 5 mins
Movement – 5 mins
Mission (Throw and catch) – 5 mins
Mission (Striking) – 5 mins
Repeat
Movement – 5 mins
Mission (Throw and catch) – 5 mins
Mission (Striking) – 5 mins
Conclude: Sitting in a circle all together (the same as the starting position) in the same spot every week. You hand out colour-in sheets, etc – 5 mins
Remember that each adventure will have a ‘set-for-school skill’ like;
- Counting & Collecting
- Remembering
- Colours
- Letters
- Numbers
- Sounds
- Shapes
This is 40 mins in total and it includes 5 mins of Q & A with parents. Note that the equipment set-up time and pack up time takes about 15 minutes, therefore, allow for 1 hour total or 45 minutes for the class time.
You can vary up what you say as long as the children repeat what they did in the adventure, for example:
Well done Little ACES
Where did we go today?
Where?
Who can tell me what did we do?
What else?
How many times did we …..? (counting question)
Repeat: Next week we are going to the …………… –
Where are we going?
See you then.
Have FUN and get in touch with your inner child!
